Our Faith
Our faith underpins everything we do at Our Lady’s Catholic College and this is reflected in our Mission Statement.
Our Lady’s is a Catholic school that welcomes not only Catholic pupils but pupils of other faiths (and indeed no faith) who share the values set out in the Mission Statement.
So how are we different to other Sixth Forms?
- The most obvious difference that we hope you will observe, is the way in which we treat each other. We strive for a community in which all students and staff are valued and are able to work together. We are proud of the way in which students from other schools and overseas exchange students are welcomed and accepted into this community.
- In form time, your tutors will lead prayer and allow time for reflection or meditation. These will follow the liturgical year and prayer themes that the main school follow. There will also be opportunity to take part in different forms of prayer. You will have opportunities to suggest ideas and lead these short sessions.
- Every week, you will attend a Theological Dialogue lesson. These are led by our highly charismatic team of RE teachers and centre around discussion of topical Religious issues such as Genetic Engineering. This is a great opportunity for you to improve your communication skills and become more proficient in expressing your moral stance.
- A Sixth Form Retreat is organised in the Spring term. This is optional but is a wonderful chance to reflect on your personal life and beliefs in a comfortable and stress-free environment in the company of your peers and experienced youth workers. We are also holding a ‘Day with a Difference’ for Year 12 students in June.
- Our Sixth Form is very active in fund-raising. We have established the Uganda Action Group which is working to offer continuous support to the schools we visit in Uganda.
In addition to this, there will be regular liturgical prayer during assemblies and short services throughout the year which will give you further opportunities for prayer and reflection. Sixth Form students also deliver assemblies to main school students. Our Chaplaincy Coordinator is also always keen to meet and chat with sixth form students and will be on hand to offer support and advice when required.
